Every organisation look for 3 fundamental attributes in a candidate
1- Does this person fit the role ?
2- Does this person have passion for the role ?
3- Does this person fit the organisation?
All questions you get would be around these three areas. Lets look at what it takes for you to address each one of them.
Does this person fit the role ?
First step in addressing this is for you to know clearly what the role is. I have seen many candidates who come for an interview without having base level clarity on the role. You may ask the consultant or the organisation who is inviting you to clearly articulate the job description and the deliverables of the role. This is a fundamental preparation.
Once you know what the role is, introspect yourself
- am i fit for this role?
- what are the key accomplishments in my previous experiences that prove a clear case for my fit for the job ?
- rehearse articulating your key accomplishments ( don't try to think on your feet in the interview, it shows up and also you may not get the relevant and most appropriate cases)
Does this person have passion for the role ?
Passion shows up in deep involvement and commitment in your area. It also shows up in the energy level you show up in the interview. Try rehearsing in front of a mirror for some expected question and talk to the person in front of you. You can yourself see how you come across energetic, confident or otherwise. Keep doing for you to get comfort.
If you are anxious / inquisitive you would also questions to the interviewer. Prepare a list of questions before the interview.
Does this person fit the organisation?
What binds an organisation is culture (the way of being in the organisation). You may talk to some existing employees in the industry and get to know about the culture. You may ask some questions like. What are the values of the organisation? Lets say transparency is one of the core values. The interviewers look for this attribute in you. It is also a check for yourself if you want to choose the organisation.
If one passes these 3 tests, you are definitely one of the probables for the te.
Now let me give you some tips on getting dressed for the occasion.
Irrespective of the culture of the organisation ( formal or semi formal), dressing formal is the safest. It is important that you are comfortable in what you are wearing.
1- you may choose to wear a nice blue/ white/ grey solid / stripe shirt. Brighter hues with white background will make you look bright. You may avoid a check unless its a pin check which would look like a solid. You may experiment with other colours if you are comfortable.
2- wear black / dark blue/ grey trouser that fit you well. These colours go well with any colour of top.
3- If its a casual meet , you may wear a t shirt and a jeans
4- Wearing a blazer is not very common these days
5- have a nice hair cut and look clean and trim
You are now all set to launch yourself for a winning interview.
If you have any questions, please ask me through your comments. Will be more than happy to share my views. You also share your experiences which others can take.
